Machines Made for Singing (SOLD OUT)

At the Italian Cultural Institute, 39 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8NX.
A narrative entertainment on the lives, training and extraordinary careers (both on and off the stage) of the greatest singers of all time; featuring music, narration and anecdotes from Monteverdi to Mozart. With counter-tenor and curator of Handel & the Castrati Nicholas Clapton, harpsichordist David Wright and narrator Jack Edwards.

Castrati Series: Let the Women Wear the Trousers
Thursday, 7 September, 6.30pm - 7.30pm
In our final castrati themed Thursday Live, Katherine Allen (mezzo-soprano) and Julian Perkins (harpsichord) will perform a selection of beautiful arias from Handel operas originally written for castrati.
£9/ £7.50 concessions.

The Last Castrato
Sunday, 1 October, 3.00pm - 4.00pm
In this talk, Nicholas Clapton, curator of the Handel & the Castrati exhibition (which ends on 1 October) will examine the life and career of the last castrato known to Western music, set in the context of the historical castrato phenomenon and the musical and non-musical events of his lifetime. Nicholas is author of "Moreschi: The Last Castrato".
