The Prince and the Porpora; Music from the Age of Prince Frederick (SOLD OUT)
Sunday 30 March, 3pm - 4pm
In this concert we will hear music of Prince Frederick's time: Handel, Arne, Scarlatti and Porpora (the prince's favourite composer) performed by Jane Harrington (soprano), Jorgen Skogmo (theorbo) and guest cellist. A famous painting of Prince Frederick (son of George II) and his sisters making music together shows an idyllic family scene, but it was not.
Julian Perkins (harpsichord) and Johanna Platt (author of the play King Fred Who Never Was) will provide an insight into the Prince's relationships (usually stormy) with his family, mistress, friends and musicians. Frederick died before his father and so never became king.
Tickets: £13, £11 concession.
