La Querelle des Bouffons with Spirituoso and soprano Alexandra Kidgell

Ensemble-in-Residence Spirituoso is joined by soprano Alexandra Kidgell to present the colourful battle between French and Italian styles of vocal composition which in the 18th century produced gems of vocal and instrumental virtuosity.

Alexandra Kidgell Biography

Alexandra Kidgell read music at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where she was a Choral Exhibitioner. She has recently completed postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with a DipRAM and the Esther Hulbert Award. She also won the Michael Head Prize for English Song and was a vocal section finalist in the Royal Overseas League Annual Music Competition 2009. She has appeared frequently as a soloist: recent engagements have included Bach St John Passion with Edward Higginbottom at the Spitalfields Festival, Bach St Matthew Passion at St John’s, Smith Square, Mozart Requiem in St Martin-in-the-Fields, and Vivaldi Magnificat and Gloria in Guildford Cathedral. Alexandra also continues to enjoy consort singing, and has worked with many of the UK’s leading ensembles, including The Sixteen, The Gabrieli Consort and I Fagiolini.
